Oracle ECV service monitoring

The Extended Content Verification (ECV) monitor on a NetScaler can be used to monitor Oracle databases. To track the state of each load balanced database server in real time, you need to bind a Oracle ECV monitor to each service. The monitor tests the service by sending periodic probes to the service in the form of an SQL Query, sometimes referred to as performing a health check. If the Oracle ECV monitor receives a timely response to its probes and the configured expression evaluates to true , it marks the service as UP. If it does not receive a timely response to the designated number of probes or the configured expression evaluates to false, it marks the service as DOWN. The Netscaler Oracle ECV monitoring supports all Oracle versions up to 21c and all password based authentication protocols.

Unsupported security features

The NetScaler Oracle ECV monitor supports only password-based authentication. It doesn’t support all security related features and capabilities.

The following security features are not supported:

  • Data encryption (SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_SERVER=required)
  • Data integrity (SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_SERVER=required)
  • Long identifiers (O8L_LI)
  • TLS authentication/Encryption
  • External authentication services, such as Kerberos and Radius
  • Compression
  • Oracle wallet
